You are invited to the opening of Bojan Mijatović's exhibition, which will be held on Wednesday, May 15 at 8 p.m., in the lobby of the Kamnik House of Culture.
The new 2019 exhibition by photographer Bojan Mijatović is a puzzle right from the title. An ignorant observer may first ask, did the New Exhibition 2018 ever exist, or perhaps the Old Exhibition? Last but not least, will the New Exhibition 2019 be followed by the New Exhibition 2020? The author does not bother to explain the choice of title, this is not his intention, nor his duty. His goal is to open up new questions, which he does successfully.
He "directs" each of the scenes into thoughtful compositions. By combining everyday objects in an unusual way, he challenges the viewer with questions: what does the photograph show?, what is actually happening in it?

Ordinary objects combined into unusual compositions are additionally whitewashed with titles. An example. Sisyphus: in the photo there is a chair, fabric and paper that serves as a kind of background. The title directs the viewer to a field of associations that, at least at first glance, have no connection with the photographed objects, but he establishes them with the title, which brings the viewer deeper into the heart of the puzzle, as if he were photographing a man rolling a stone up a hill. The photographs are combined in a series and change the form of communication through the layout - they create a labyrinth from which only the viewer can find the exit.
With the New Exhibition 2019, Mijatovič does not create a story that safely guides the viewer from its beginning to its end. He builds his narrative through an experiment with a visual language that allows for multiple connections, as well as detours and detours and delivers nothing on a platter. The final work also does not determine the final meaning or message, but leaves questions and interpretations open, which it succeeds precisely by allowing the series to create its own language during the creation process.
At a time when it seems that photography is only in the function of providing answers to where I am, who I am with, what I am doing, what I eat, what I have..., the questions raised by the New Exhibition 2019 are a fresh and welcome reminder that photography even more than creating a (false) public image of a sleazeball. To the question posed in the introduction, whether the New Exhibition 2019 will one day be followed by the New Exhibition 2020, 2021 .. or perhaps a New Exhibition, the answer is therefore clear: it should!
