About the Photo Club
Photo club Kamnik is a voluntary and non-profit association dealing with digital and analogue photography. It was founded in December 2004 on the initiative and desire of some young people from Kamnik - amateur photographers, who wanted to fill the void in this field in Kamnik. We arranged the club premises - an equipped studio where members' meetings are also held, a darkroom and a cabinet with a library - in the Kamnik House of Culture, where we also take care of the gallery, in which local and foreign authors have exhibited in recent years. Between 2009 and 2014, we organized the very successful Exposed photography contests, in which five thousand photographers from all over the world participated over the course of five years. The gallery activity is one of the main activities of the Photo Club Kamnik, and the gallery of the Kamnik Cultural Center is the only one in the wider area dedicated only to photography. Since 2011, we have been cooperating with the Photon Gallery and at the Photonic Moments festival, where we exhibited our members' own works and photographs by foreign authors.
Our collaboration with the France Balantič Kamnik Library is also very successful, which enables us to establish a mobile collection that is entirely thematically dedicated to photography. More than 200 units of book material not only serve members, but also contribute significantly to the spread of knowledge about photography.
Among the club's activities, it is worth highlighting the fully equipped studio and darkroom, which members use with advantage. Temnica enables us, in the full swing of digital photography, to inspire members with the charm of working according to the classic analog process. The darkroom, which is available to every member at any time, was the main incentive for analog photography to be introduced even to those who only recently became acquainted with photography. The same applies to the studio, where, with the help of qualified members, we make sure that technical knowledge is also passed on to less experienced users.
We also spread knowledge among members with the help of organized lectures, workshops and excursions. Short lectures and workshops on a wide variety of topics are prepared either by the members themselves, or we invite established photographers and lecturers as guests. Thus, we organized a year-long author's photography workshop for members with Peter Rauch, a lecturer at the College of Services - Department of Photography and the Academy of Fine Arts. Janez Suhadolnik, a longtime photojournalist and photo editor at Delo newspaper, prepared a portrait photography workshop. In addition to the galleries in the vicinity, we organize excursions every year during the months of photography in Vienna and Bratislava, and every two years we visit the contemporary art biennale in Venice.
In addition to spreading knowledge about photography and socializing in the same interest group, the goals of the club are also the promotion of the local community through connecting with various local and photographic societies and related institutions throughout Slovenia and across borders.
