Opening of Ilona Mrgola's photo exhibition in the Kamnik House of Culture
On Wednesday, January 13, the online opening of the exhibition entitled Grounded by photographer Ilona Mrgola took place.
Ilona Mrgole (1994) is a representative of the younger generation of photographers who, after graduating from the Secondary School of Media and Graphics in Ljubljana, decided to study at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, and at the beginning of last year she was on a study exchange at Emily Carr University in Vancouver , where the series Grounded began to be created, with which it is presented in the gallery of the Kamnik House of Culture.
While exploring the new environment, she collected stones of various shapes and took them to the studio, where she began to build sculptures. That's when the project took on a new meaning. It was not only about setting up sculptures, but also about balancing yourself and your emotions during quarantine and far from home. This is how a poetic journey into minimalism, form and self was born. As she says, the term balance has found a new meaning in her world.
Since childhood, Ilona Mrgole has been in intense contact with nature, from wandering through the forests around Kamnik, hiking in the Kamnik Alps to visiting the Bohinj area. She realized how much nature means to her only when she left Kamnik four years ago. Since then, he has been exploring the relationship between man and nature through his work, and with the knowledge he has acquired, he is also discovering himself.
She is a member of the Photo Club Kamnik, where she has exhibited several times, and Grounded is her first solo exhibition. Due to the closure of galleries and museums, it is currently not possible to view the exhibition physically. As soon as the galleries are reopened, the exhibition will be on display during the official hours of the cultural center, that is, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Only one person will be allowed to enter the gallery.
