You are cordially invited to the opening of the photography exhibition Hunting, by Klemn Skubica, which will be held on Wednesday, April 26, at 8 p.m. in the gallery of Doma kulture Kamnik!
Klemen Skubic is a representative of the younger generation of Slovenian photographers who have been actively co-creating the domestic art scene in recent years. At the center of his interest is photographic narratives in which he ponders some fundamental existential questions. In the series Boxer from 2013, which shows portraits of older, once successful professional boxers, he raises questions about the loss of human physical strength and transience
in general. In the last series with the meaningful title The Hunt (2014), he shows the viewer fragments of his own intimate life, which he records in the form of hisa kind of visual diary.
The Lov series consists of classic black-and-white photographs that show, at first glance, completely unrelated subjects, ranging from portraits to shots of interiors, landscapes and urban environments. In most cases, the photos are not sharp, but on the contrary, they are blurry and blurred. But not only that, the images in the individual shots are almost unrecognizable, which suggests that Skubica is not interested in depicting reality, but rather in visualizing his own mood and emotional states, which he illustrates either with carefully selected motifs or with light effects, shadows and strong tonal contrasts. Among the portrait studies, the shots of his closest family members stand out, reflecting a strong emotional bond with the depicted, while at the same time, the images mark his personal perception of different periods of life, childhood and old age. The other photographs are lined with images of nature and empty urban spaces, which seem to express the atmosphere of the moment, but not in the external environment, but in the photographer's spiritual world. In selected scenes, such as the rough sea, one can actually feel the photographer's desire to depict his subjective feelings, which he further intensifies with a long exposure time in the mostly night shots. The contrasting shadows and light reflections recorded by the photographic lens in the night light create a dramatic or melancholic atmosphere in the images.
Skubica's photographic set is a slightly sensual visual narrative, with which he reveals his inner world to the viewer, as the very title of the series alludes to: chasing moments of inexpressible intimate feelings. On the other hand, the author visualizes personal knowledge about everyday life and the world around him.
