From Tuesday, November 28, 2023, an independent photography exhibition by Katja Gartner Krapež, a member of the Kamnik Photo Club, titled Silver in the hair, wisdom and a smile in the eyes, will be on view in the premises of the Kamnik Senior Citizens' Home.
The exhibition takes us to the premises of the senior citizens' home Kamnik, where, on the initiative of an amateur photographer, more than thirty residents, in cooperation with the management of the home, decided to share their moments. This gives the project authenticity and depth, while opening a dialogue between generations and emphasizing the importance of mutual respect.
The project not only enables the photographing of the elderly in their environment, but also places their portraits in the foreground at a cultural event, raising public awareness. This shows respect for individuals and their life stories and portrays a part of the population that does not appear so often in the photographs themselves, and certainly not in the primary environment of the home.
The exhibited work thus offers insight into the elderly in a different way, as only the most beautiful feelings are elicited from them, which is evident in the portraits themselves. This is to show that residents also feel good in the home and that with a positive attitude and interest, it is possible to attract the most beautiful feelings of importance, usefulness, and beauty from them.
The exhibition itself goes beyond the stereotypes of institutional care for the elderly in a gentle but extremely moving way and reveals the home for the elderly as a place where wisdom, warmth and humanity can flourish, creating a space for intergenerational exchanges.
With the photographic story, the amateur photographer wants to leave a mark on the hearts of the visitors of the exhibition, encourage empathy and support dialogue about the value and beauty of every period of life. In addition, he strives to encourage greater visits by the elderly in the home, as he believes in the importance of intergenerational bonding and respect and awareness and awareness of the different periods of human life.
Visits, socializing and the closeness of relatives have an extremely positive impact on the lives of residents in homes for the elderly. The moments we dedicate to them have been proven to contribute to a feeling of connection, happiness and importance in their everyday life.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 4:45 p.m. and until the end of January 2024 in the premises of the Kamnik Senior Citizens' Home.
It will offer an insight into a small part of the stories through facial expressions, enrich the cultural experience of the citizens of Kamnik and visitors to the home, and during the exhibition, enliven the walls of the home with portraits and smiles of the residents.
You are cordially invited to pay them a little attention with your visit!
