About the exhibition
Ana Stanovnik Perčič's photos do not provide a chronological insight into the activities of the choir, as is usually the case when we commemorate similar life and other milestones. There is not a set of photos from performances and singing magazines that have appeared in the years since its foundation, which would leave the outside observer quite indifferent. The exhibition brings much more. Namely, it gives an insight into the backstage, into fleeting scenes from rehearsals, into the spontaneity of the moment, into the friendships that were forged between the members and did not die out even after a few years' break that they took from performing. With photographs, the viewer enters the space of creation, which almost always remains veiled to the outside observer.
The author herself is a member of the choir, which allows her not to attract attention and not to disturb the creative process or the relaxed socializing between the singers when she catches the subjects in the lens. The story he weaves with photographs can therefore be told in the first person and even more authentically, so that the viewer also feels part of the group.
Nor does she resist the temptation to try to translate the language of the music into a silent photograph, yet each of them sings, whether through laughter, the rustle of sheet music, the echo of footsteps on the stairs, the advice of the choirmaster, or the concentrated silence that fills the rehearsal space, right before the song is played. And it can also be heard through the photos.
